LISBON, Ohio (AP) - Police say a boy and his father have died and a teen has been hospitalized after the three got caught in a current following a kayaking outing on Father’s Day in northeast Ohio.

Lisbon Police Chief Michael Abraham says the two boys had been rinsing mud off their shoes around 6 p.m. Sunday after kayaking with the 44-year-old man in Lisbon’s Little Beaver Creek when the man’s 10-year-old son got caught in the current. The 14-year-old tried to help the 10-year-old, but got caught himself.

Abraham says the 44-year-old man jumped in to save both, but drowned in his attempt. The 10-year-old’s body was discovered around 2:40 Monday morning.

Police say the 14-year-old was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital Sunday. His condition wasn’t known Monday.

Their names weren’t immediately released.
