BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A 60-year-old Fishtail man faces federal drug charges in a case in which investigators reported recovering more than 6 pounds of methamphetamine.

Merrill Clark Gardner made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby on June 18, shortly after his arrest. She ordered him held without bond. The case will be presented to a grand jury.

Federal prosecutors allege Gardner sold 1.25 pounds of meth to an informant on June 17 and that DEA agents found another 1.25 pounds of meth in Gardner’s pickup truck the next day. A man with Gardner said they had been at a residence near Nye. A search of that property turned up three more packages each containing 1.25 pounds of meth.

The property owner told investigators that Gardner had paid him $100 to $200 a month for at least five years to store meth.
