WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Fire officials say an Italian restaurant in western Massachusetts is closed after a kitchen fire caused up to $100,000 in damage.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Culver says flames ignited Sunday morning in the kitchen ceiling of Carrabba’s Italian Grill in West Springfield. He says the fire spread up to the roof and into the roof membrane.

Firefighters were able to get control of the fire within about 20 minutes.

Culver says the kitchen sustained additional water damage and the dining area received mostly smoke damage. Firefighters helped ventilate the smoke from the restaurant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The restaurant is closed until repairs can be made.
