DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 13 to 26 years in prison in the stabbing death of his uncle in a suburban Philadelphia home just before midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Twenty-five-year-old Kyle Simpson of Langhorne pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder in Bucks County Court.

Prosecutors said he stabbed 58-year-old Stanley Taylor during a drunken altercation shortly after 11:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Assistant District Attorney Michele Walsh called the case “a tragedy for the entire family.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Taylor’s widow Mary, the aunt of the defendant, asked Walsh to speak on her behalf in court to tell Simpson that she still loved him but it would take a long time before “the forgiveness can even start.”
