LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) - A man has been shot to death in Lumberton and investigators are looking into whether the death is connected to a second shooting.

Lumberton Police Capt. Terry Parker told The Fayetteville Observer (https://bit.ly/1FwysTZ) that 20-year-old Journey Kennedy called 911 about 11:15 p.m. Saturday and said he had been shot.

Kennedy was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton where he died.

Officers were at the scene about 1 a.m. Sunday when they were called to a shooting about a mile away.

Police say 27-year-old Patrick Smith of Red Springs had been shot several times. Parker said Smith was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He’s been transferred to another hospital. There was no word on his condition.
