GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Northern Colorado resident Kelley Johnson will be the state’s representative this year at September’s Miss America Competition.

The Greeley Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1CogF1j) the 22-yar-old from Windsor, a town about halfway between Fort Collins and Greeley, says she was recruited to compete by Miss Colorado organizers two years ago while she was a nursing student in Iowa.

Johnson was crowned Miss Colorado on Saturday from among 25 contestants, and will spend the year making appearances and working with nonprofit organizations.

She’ll head to Atlantic City, New Jersey later this year to compete in the national pageant.
