SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A ban on smoking in Salem’s natural areas and city parks is being delayed at the request of Mayor Anna Peterson.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/1RppS0c) Peterson is unable to attend Monday’s council meeting and asked the measure be delayed until she can be involved in the discussions.

Councilmembers were divided over the smoking ban at their June 8 meeting, voting 5-4 to bring the measure back for a second reading.
