SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Southaven aldermen are cutting rental on the city-owned arena to $1,500 a day until Nov. 1.

Mayor Darren Musselwhite tells aldermen it will help tenants deal with disruptions caused by construction of an emergency shelter on arena property.

The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1Clyq19 ) reports that the city’s website shows the normal rate for single-use tenants is $3,000 a day with a $3,000 deposit. Until Nov. 1, the deposit will be $750.

The board also amended its lease with Mid-South Swap Meet and Flea Market to a temporary rate of $1,500 a day, down from $2,500.

The emergency shelter will be available for community events except during emergencies.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency are covering 95 percent of the $2.7 million cost.
