AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) - Severe thunderstorms swept through southern Minnesota, bringing hail and high winds that downed trees and damaged buildings.

Monday morning’s storm also created some flash flooding. Interstate 90 was closed briefly at Austin because of water on the roadway, but was reopened a short time later after the water receded.

There were reports of some downed trees and a roof being ripped off a home in Fairmont. There were also reports of felled trees in Albert Lea. In Worthington, the roof was torn off the arena at the Nobles County fairgrounds.

The National Weather Service tells KTOE News that winds gusted up to 60 mph at North Mankato and 68 mph in St. James.

Rainfall amounts include 4.5 inches in New Richland and 3.3 inches in Albert Lea.
