MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - About 20 members of the Vermont State Police are in New York state helping with the search for two prisoners who escaped from a maximum security prison in northern New York more than two weeks ago.

State Police spokesman Scott Watermen says about 20 members of the Tactical Support Unit - which he described as essentially a S.W.A.T. team - were deployed at the request of the New York State Police.

It was unclear if there was a specific tactical reason for the deployment, or if it was to provide a break for some of the hundreds of New York law enforcement personnel who have been searching for convicted killers David Sweat and Richard Matt.

Waterman said he did not know where in New York state the Vermonters went.
