DETROIT (AP) - Thousands of people have gathered for the annual fireworks display over the Detroit River.

Organizers moved up the start time for the show due to the threat of thunderstorms. That meant there was still some light when it began.

The event attracts spectators along the water between the border cities of Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. has served as the event’s title sponsor since 2013. Some spectators with gather on Belle Isle.

Detroit police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassandra Lewis tells the Detroit Free Press there were no incidents or injuries this year.

Ford was also to host “Focus on Freedom” at the fireworks. Working with the Yankee Air Museum, the event honors more than 250 active and retired military veterans and their families with a reception and up-close view of the fireworks.
