SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say human remains found in Syracuse aren’t related to a skull found about two miles away last week.

Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective Jon Seeber tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse (https://bit.ly/1RsyC5y ) that a man walking along railroad tracks found the remains Monday morning. Seeber says the remains have been there for “quite some time.”

Investigators haven’t identified the remains and are working to determine a cause of death.

Workers found a skull in a garbage bin behind a supermarket on Thursday. Investigators say the skull was human, but appears to be in an extreme state of decomposition.

Both cases remain under investigation.
