DALLAS (AP) - A North Texas man has been sentenced to eight years in a U.S. prison in an anabolic steroids case involving packages mailed from Asia.

Nicholas Todd Freed was sentenced Monday in Dallas.

The 40-year-old Dallas man pleaded guilty last November to attempted possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of implements for use in the production of false documents and possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.

Freed was arrested in January 2014 at a Dallas postal service business when he tried to pick up a package that investigators say contained anabolic steroids. The packet was mailed from Singapore and tracked through San Francisco.

Investigators say Freed, who flashed a counterfeit law enforcement badge, also had computers with sexually explicit images of minors.
