CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A court hearing in Atlantic City’s federal lawsuit against a company accused of misusing $3 million for a failed loan program was quickly adjourned Tuesday after the defendant’s lawyer didn’t call in.

The lawyer for defendant W. Wesley Drummon wasn’t on the conference call, The Press of Atlantic City reported (https://bit.ly/1e23j4I).

Lawyer Felix Gonzalez told The Associated Press that a personal matter kept him from attending. He wouldn’t be more specific.

“Something personal that interfered with my ability to go to the conference,” he said. “In other words, life happens.”

Atlantic City is suing Drummon’s ZeMurray Street Capital to get back $3 million it gave to the program to make loans. None has been made.

Federal Magistrate Judge Anne Marie Donio last month ordered Drummon to certify that he has given all company documentation he has to Atlantic City after he missed previous deadlines. He sent in a certification that he had, but Atlantic City’s attorneys say they have obtained additional information through subpoenas.

Donio warned Gonzalez that his client may be sanctioned if he doesn’t deliver all of the relevant information that he has about the operations of the Tennessee Business and Industrial Development Corp. ZeMurray Street Capital used the money from Atlantic City to buy that company, according to a review by The Associated Press.

The loan program was launched in 2013 by then-Mayor Lorenzo Langford. ZeMurray Street Capital is partially owned by a family trust run by relatives of an aide to Langford.
