HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man is accused of fatally slashing his girlfriend’s neck during an argument over the weekend.

Alan Espinoza pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail Monday in the killing of 24-year-old Neyvin Espinal. Espinoza was arrested Sunday and is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities say the Hempstead man stabbed the victim in the throat and neck during an argument Saturday. Espinal’s body was found by a roommate around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Espinoza told reporters “I am so sorry,” as he was escorted by police Monday.

Police say the couple had been dating for a few months and had been living together for about four weeks.
