DETROIT (AP) - A man was shot following an argument and rolled his SUV into a street barricade set up for Detroit’s annual fireworks show before dying.

Sgt. Cassandra Lewis says the 37-year-old victim was trying to flee from another man shortly after 10 p.m. Monday at the Martin Luther King Apartments just east of downtown.

The man fired shots into the SUV, striking the victim in the head. He drove a short distance before striking a wooden barricade across a nearby street. A passenger in the SUV was not hurt.

No arrests were made.

Lewis says the shooting “had nothing to do with the fireworks.”

Police patrolled the area around the large complex of low-income apartments and condo-style units before and during the fireworks show which started about 9 p.m.
