HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A special election in western Pennsylvania is scheduled for Nov. 3 to fill vacant seat in the Pennsylvania Senate.

Lt. Gov. Mike Stack set the date Tuesday to coincide with the general election.

The special election will determine who will succeed Matt Smith in the 37th Senate District, which takes in parts of Allegheny and Washington counties.

Smith, a Democrat who was serving his first Senate term, resigned this month to become the president of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce.
