AMES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a New Jersey man who was fatally shot in the central Iowa city of Ames.

Ames police say officers sent to check a report about a shooting early Saturday morning found the wounded man in a backyard. He was pronounced dead there.

He was identified as 23-year-old Mason Turner, of Burlington City, New Jersey.

Police say investigators have talked to a 23-year-old Ames man who they say shot Turner and spoke to a witness. Both were released.

Police say the two told investigators that Turner was a guest of theirs who got into an altercation in the backyard and pulled out a gun. Police say one of the two Ames men then got a handgun and shot Turner in the head.
