ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a suspect wanted in connection with a 1996 murder in New Mexico has been arrested in Texas.

U.S. Marshals Service officials say 37-year-old Paul Sanchez was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in East El Paso.

He’s being held in custody at the Otero County prison in Texas awaiting extradition to Albuquerque.

Authorities allege that Sanchez was involved in the September 1996 shooting death of Miguel Cabrera outside a dance hall in Albuquerque.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s officials say deputies responded to a call of shots fired and discovered Cabrera’s body inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

After nearly 19 years on the run, Sanchez was located by federal authorities in East El Paso and arrested at a home without incident.
