RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A veteran employee of the Virginia Retirement System has been named director.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1fuE3oY ) that the VRS Board of Trustees appointed Patricia S. Bishop to the position Friday. She has been interim director of the $68 billion state retirement system since Robert P. Schultze stepped down in February after 10 years on the job. Bishop previously served as deputy director and as director of policy, planning and compliance.

Before joining VRS, she was responsible for legislative oversight of the retirement system as principal legislative analyst for the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission.
