VIENNA, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a bear wandered past a playground and garden in Vienna.

Lucy Caldwell, a Fairfax County police spokeswoman, says the bear sighting was reported to police at about 1 p.m. Monday on Trap Road. She says no humans came close to the bear. She says the bear appeared to be a juvenile.

This is the time of year when young bears leave their mothers to fend for themselves in the world, and many of them mistakenly wander into populated areas. Several have been spotted in Montgomery County lately, and at least two other bears were seen in Fairfax County in late May and again in June.
