DANBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Two sheriff’s deputies have saved a woman from her car that was nearly submerged in floodwaters in a rural area outside Lansing.

Ionia County Sheriff Dale Miller says the woman was driving in Danby Township around 5 a.m. Tuesday when her vehicle hit a patch of water and veered into a flooded field. He says she couldn’t get out of the sinking car, but was able to call 911 and get to the back of the car in a pocket of air.

The deputies got to the scene and waded out into waters that Miller says were likely five or six feet deep. Miller says they broke a car window and got the woman out.

Heavy storms moved through the area Monday, spawning a tornado in nearby Portland.
