HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A 21-year-old Forrest County woman has been indicted for felony neglect of a child in the 2013 death of her 6-month-old son.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1JiiBQz) that Julie Pittman was arrested Monday an indictment issued by a grand jury.

Authorities said her son, Aiden Pittman, died on Aug. 12, 2013. According to the indictment, the child was deprived of necessary clothing, shelter, health care or supervision appropriate to the child’s age, and that led to boy’s death.

On Aug. 12, Forrest County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with medical personnel to the home for an unknown medical call.

“When officers were on the way, they received further information that the child was dead,” said sheriff’s investigator Nick Calico. “At that point, we initiated a death investigation case.

Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem said the child was found in a bedroom in the Forrest County home and pronounced dead at the scene.

Klem said an autopsy listed the cause of death as “positional asphyxia with contributory cause of death an unsafe environment.”

Julie Pittman is being held in the Forrest County Jail pending an initial court appearance. Online jail records do not list an attorney for Pittman.
