JENNINGS, La. (AP) - A Jennings man charged with fatally shot his friend before dumping the body and going to a 2013 New Year’s Eve party has pleaded guilty in the case.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) Keagan Drew Reon pleaded guilty Tuesday to manslaughter and obstruction of justice to manslaughter instead of moving forward with a jury trial in Ruston Reed’s death.

In exchange, a second-degree murder charge was dropped.

Prosecutor Bennett Lapoint says Reon will be sentenced to 20 years in prison for manslaughter and 10 years for obstruction of justice to manslaughter on Sept. 28.

The sentences are to run consecutively as part of the plea deal.

Reon was facing automatic life in prison if found guilty on the second-degree murder charge by jurors.
