NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge has granted a request to postpone former District Attorney Walter Reed’s trial on an 18-count indictment from its original date of July 6.

The New Orleans Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1fAvmtf) the motion, signed by U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon and entered into the court record Tuesday, sets the trial of the former five-term district attorney for St. Tammany and Washington parishes and his son for Jan. 11.

The motion to delay the trial was filed jointly by prosecutors and defense attorneys..

Rick Simmons, an attorney for Walter Reed, argued that the indictment - which accused Reed of overpaying for campaign events in order to launder money and using campaign funds for personal expenses as a way to evade taxes - was insufficiently precise.
