RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The president of the state chapter of the NAACP is holding a Bible study about love and justice to commemorate the deaths of nine people shot to death at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Rev. William Barber will lead the Bible study at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, along with its minister, the Rev. Nancy Petty.

Nine black people were shot to death during a Bible study one week ago at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. A 21-year-old white man, Dylann Roof, was arrested the next day in Shelby and charged in their deaths.

Federal authorities are investigating the shootings as a hate crime.
