ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities have arrested a man in connection to the stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and their 6-month-old son.

Kwame Carpenter was detained early Tuesday after he jumped into a lake at a Fountain Valley park following a police pursuit during which he crashed his car. Anaheim police say the 24-year-old was questioned all day and arrested Tuesday evening. He could face homicide charges.

Police began searching for Carpenter on Monday after officers responded to an assault in progress at an apartment complex. A woman was found dead inside and a baby boy was hurt. The child later died at a hospital.

They were later identified as 24-year-old Moureen Wanjiku Gathua-Carpenter and her 6-month-old son, Kyan Carpenter.

Kwame Carpenter is the father of the boy. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.
