OAKDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Police have arrested a Long Island man who led them on a 3-mile chase while tossing bags of white powder out of the car.

The chase ended when a tire flew off the suspect’s Hyundai in Oakdale Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk County police say 28-year-old Camilo Tatis of Brentwood was pulled over by police in Islip Terrace. But when the officers got out of their car, police say Tatis sped off.

Along the way he sideswiped an SUV and lost his tire.

Police say the bags contained drugs but did not say what kind.

Tatis was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

He’s scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
