MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) - Officials say a teenage boy has been rescued from a south King County lake in the Maple Valley, Washington, area.

Kent Fire Capt. Kyle Ohashi said the boy had been swimming with friends Tuesday afternoon at Lake Wilderness when he disappeared under water. Ohashi says an off-duty Kent police officer at the lake with his family called for help, then dove into the lake repeatedly in search of the boy.

Dive teams responded and found the teen in about 30 feet of water. The spokesman says he had been under water about 40 minutes.

Ohashi says emergency crews were able to get a heartbeat before the boy was airlifted to a hospital.

No additional information was available late Tuesday about his condition.
