BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - The construction worker who drowned when he fell into the Genesee River earlier this week was a 31-year-old father of three from western New York.

The Daily News of Batavia (https://bit.ly/1HgpLTd ) reports that David Campbell of Batavia was in a small work boat that tipped over Monday morning underneath a bridge in downtown Rochester.

Emergency officials say a safety line Campbell was attached to became stuck on an abutment, trapping him under water. Crews recovered his body about two hours after the accident.

Campbell worked for The Pike Co., a construction firm founded in Rochester in 1873. The company was awarded a state transportation contract to refurbish the bridge.

Funeral services are being held Saturday morning in Batavia. Campbell is survived by his wife and the couple’s three young children.
