NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Orleans says a man with multiple felony convictions will spend 15 years in prison for illegally possessing a handgun.

Forty-three-year-old Eric O’Neal Selders of Independence was sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors say he was arrested in July 2012 with a .38-caliber revolver. He later pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment for a federal gun violation.

With four prior state felony convictions, Selders was sentenced as a federal “career criminal.” He will face five years of supervision after his release.
