FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) - Divers have recovered the body of a 17-year-old Florence boy who drowned at Woahink Lake.

KCST radio reports that Jose Dela Mora was swimming with friends late Thursday afternoon to a sand bar in the north end of the lake near Honeyman State Park.

When Dela Mora said he was too tired to continue, a friend tried to help but couldn’t prevent him from slipping beneath the water.

Rescuers searched the lake late into the night. Divers returned Friday morning and found the body at about 10 a.m.

KCST reports that Dela Mora was a popular student and outstanding wrestler at Siuslaw High School. He would have been a senior this fall.
