LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Department of Transportation is warning motorists to expect long delays on Interstate 65 southbound near Lafayette because travel is being restricted to one lane until a problem with a bridge beam can be fixed.

INDOT is encouraging motorists to seek an alternate route. INDOT officials say the left lane will reopen after short-term repairs are performed to the beam under the bridge.

Bridge engineers are developing the repair plan in response to a recent inspection. Long-term repairs will be performed bridge as part of the planned I-65 added travel lanes project.
