KENAI, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has placed restrictions on king salmon fishing in the Kenai and Kasilof rivers.

The Peninsula Clarion reports (https://bit.ly/1TRWNOX ) the department released emergency orders Thursday aimed at allowing king salmon fishing in both rivers. In July, anglers must fish no-bait and on a single hook.

The restriction is in place on the Kenai River from its mouth upstream to the outlet of Skilak Lake. On the Kasilof River, anglers won’t be able to bait or use multiple hooks from the river’s mouth upstream to the Sterling Highway Bridge during July.

Managers justified the restrictions citing that restricted king salmon fishing on the nearby Kenai River would likely cause more fishing on the Kasilof River.
