LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Lancaster County engineer has requested $2.6 million to fund a new bridge and road improvements in Nebraska.

The Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/1HksKtM ) reports Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman asked the County Board Thursday for the money to replace a bridge near the end of its lifespan and to pave 7.2 miles of roads. Without the funding, Dingman says she may have to close the bridge.

The board’s commissioners will consider Dingman’s request as part of next year’s budget.

This story has been corrected to show the Lancaster County engineer requested road and bridge funds, not the Lincoln County engineer.
