ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - Spirit Airlines Inc. is building a new maintenance hangar at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. announced Friday that the project at the airport in the Detroit suburb of Romulus has support from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The project by Miramar, Florida-based Spirit Airlines is expected to generate $31.7 million in new private investment and add 84 new jobs. Michigan says it has been awarded a $1 million Michigan Business Development Program performance based grant.

Officials say Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Texas.
