NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a bookkeeper who confessed to embezzling $715,000 from a community health charity to 30 months in prison.

Patricia Blanchard pleaded guilty to mail fraud in March for taking the money from Community Health Charities of Louisiana and Mississippi, a charity run by her husband, George Blanchard.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite said in a news release that Blanchard wrote notes on checks like “Cancer Research Institute” and “March of Dimes” while she embezzled the money to pay her own credit card bills.

U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo also ordered Thursday Blanchard pay back all of the money she took.
