ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police say a suspected gang member has been caught after he allegedly shot someone and then initiated a high-speed chase.

Police spokesman Fred Duran says the suspect got into a physical altercation with the victim inside the Lotus Night Club early Saturday.

Officers spotted the suspect in a Chevy SUV running through stop lights.

Duran says a male occupant allegedly threw a handgun out the window as officers were in pursuit.

The car eventually stopped and officers were able to take the male driver into custody.

Duran says the driver is a gang member on federal probation for drug trafficking and aggravated assault.

Police say the victim is in critical condition.

Authorities are not releasing any identities until the investigation is complete.
