MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Police say a nurse suffered smoke inhalation during a fire in the medical office of the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Sprinklers quickly extinguished the Saturday afternoon fire in the medical director’s office, but smoke traveled throughout the first floor of the medical wing and administrative offices.

Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold says in a release the nurse was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The water and smoke damage did not spread to the inmate areas, but the fire heavily damaged the medical director’s office. The jail has room for 950 inmates.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue will investigate the cause of the fire with help from the Sheriff’s office arson investigator.
