TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A northern Ohio university’s observatory is undergoing an $80,000 renovation that will include a new telescope with new capabilities.

The Toledo Blade reports (https://bit.ly/1SQ7Qqs ) the University of Toledo’s Brooks Observatory will have a new telescope as its centerpiece that will be able to see dimmer objects and easily track their movements.

Officials say the upgrade can be used to take photographs of the heavens.

The new telescope equipment cost about $20,000, including optics and a hydraulic pedestal it will be placed on.

Renovations will include shortening the observatory building to accommodate the telescope’s sightlines.

They are expected to be complete by the fall, which is when officials are planning to reopen the observatory with the new telescope. The old telescope will be placed in storage.
