STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a construction worker killed this week in an accident at Sikorsky Airport in Stratford.

The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/1GBF2JL) that 57-year-old Antonio Simoes of Naugatuck was a nine-year employee of the Manafort Brothers company. Simoes’ obituary says he is survived by his wife and two sons.

Simoes was killed Thursday when he was struck in the neck by a gas-powered saw he was using to cut through a water main in a trench on a runway expansion project.

His death is under investigation by police, federal safety officials and a safety team from the Manafort company.

Simoes was working on a $17 million construction project to extend a runway at the airport and relocate a busy road.

The airport is owned by the city of Bridgeport.
