CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Two divers from San Antonio missing in the Gulf of Mexico for more than three hours have been rescued after being spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter.

The Coast Guard said in a statement Sunday that 51-year-old Dennis Garrett and 46-year-old Robert Holms were pulled from the water Saturday more than 6 miles from their last known location.

The men were diving about 16 miles off San Jose Island when the captain of their dive boat noticed they were more than 40 minutes late and couldn’t be spotted. The captain radioed the Coast Guard for help.

Lt. Harry Lehman said in the release that the divers’ brightly colored flotation devices made it easier for them to be spotted.

An ambulance crew evaluated the divers as a precautionary measure.
