WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A jury has found a Draper man guilty of murder for driving drunk and killing a mother who was driving her daughter to cheerleading practice.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1HniQYy ) that the jury on Friday found 45-year-old Bill Robert Thompson guilty of murder and two counts of aggravated assault for the May 2014 crash.

Thompson was drunk and enraged from a fight at home when he drove into a busy intersection and hit the car driven by 43-year-old Susan Madsen.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to several DUI and domestic violence charges, leaving it up to the jury to decide if Madsen’s death was murder or a lesser charge.

Thompson’s attorney had argued that Susan Madsen’s death was the result of automobile homicide, not murder.
