DALEVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Emergency responders rescued a kayaker from the rain-swollen White River near Muncie and searched for a second one before she was spotted safely on a riverbank.

The Star Press reports (https://tspne.ws/1BZNBTe ) crews rescued the unidentified female kayaker from the river near Daleville after she became trapped in brush around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and nearby residents heard her calls for help.

The rescued woman told crews she had lost sight of another woman that was kayaking with her, but the second kayaker was spotted safely on a bank of the river about an hour later not far from where the rescue occurred about 10 miles southwest of Muncie.

The National Weather Service says nearly 3 inches of rain fell on the area Friday and Saturday, pushing the river above flood stage.
