ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - An ordinance capping the number of bingo sites in Alexandria has been approved by the City Council, but it didn’t sail through.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1Mkkb2s) the ordinance passed in a 4-2 vote, with one abstention.

While the ordinance caps the number of bingo venues, additional nonprofit operators could begin a bingo operation in one of the existing halls if there is availability.

During the discussion, officials referred to three bingo halls in Alexandria, but there are actually five, so that will be the number at which they are capped, based on the ordinance.

The city has had a moratorium on bingo expansion for about eight years, but the council has lifted it at least twice. That moratorium has been by resolution, not by ordinance.
