ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident which claimed the life of an Anderson woman.

Authorities tell local media outlets that the incident happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday when a woman walking along a street in the city was run down by a vehicle.

The driver drove off and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there were several people at the scene when investigators arrived, but they all left before police could interview them.

Authorities are working to determine what type of vehicle was involved. The name of the victim was not immediately released.
