MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a 38-year-old man was killed when his car rolled over while being followed by a tribal law enforcement officer in western North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release that James Leppell of New Town was ejected from the car he was driving about 15 miles north of Mandaree on May 28. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway patrol says Leppell was driving at a high rate of speed before the crash and was being pursued by an officer who had turned on the vehicle’s emergency lights. According to the highway patrol, Leppell lost control of the car as he drove through a curve and it went off the road.

The crash is under investigation.
