SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The Attorney General’s office is dismissing charges against a former Simpsonville police chief and detective in connection with a charge of misconduct in office.

Multiple news outlets report former police chief Charles Alan Reece and former detective George Ralph Bobo were indicted in February 2014 on charges of misconduct involving an impounded motorcycle in 2007. Attorney General Alan Wilson’s said Friday he will be dismissing the charges.

Reece, who was named chief in 2000, retired from the Simpsonville Police Department in June 2012.

In a letter sent to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Wilson said while probable cause may have existed to charge the men, the office does not believe there is enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
