PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Firefighters will be waiting tables at a northeast Philadelphia restaurant to raise money for the children of the first female firefighter in Philadelphia to die in the line of duty.

The fundraising dinner for the family of Lieutenant Joyce Craig will be held Wednesday at Johnnie’s Italian Restaurant in the Wissinoming section of the city.

Officials say fire department members from the rank of lieutenant up to deputy commissioner will be volunteering as waiters and/or bus staff for the day.

Craig died in December when she became trapped in the basement of a burning row home where an elderly woman was later rescued.

The 11-year veteran is survived by son Mekhi Donte-Green and infant daughter Laylani Lewis. All proceeds and tips will go to the Lieutenant Joyce Craig Memorial Fund.
