MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - The city of Mitchell is getting new leadership.

Challenger Jerry Toomey defeated incumbent Mayor Ken Tracy in Tuesday’s election. The Daily Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1FsWM9y ) that Toomey got 58 percent of the 2,630 votes that were cast. He’ll be sworn into office in July.

Toomey lost in a six-way race to Tracy in the 2012 mayoral election. Tracy says he’s surprised by Toomey’s easy win in this year’s election.
